My art is about cities, often London, and i explore urbanism, economic power, environmental decline, political control, societal inequality. I draw on my experiences living and working in London and my 20 year career as a town planner and economic development specialist.
My process generally begins with photography. I like to layer images of real places together with contrasting or symbolic motifs in order to create imaginary scenarios that pose questions about what may transpire or might have already happened. Ideas of transformation, slippage, growth and loss are frequently present in my works. Some collages are photographic works in their own right; others are the starting point for paintings or prints. In my paintings I let the oils slip and loosely layer to emphasis the narrative.
